Teri Larson, Chorus Master
Teri Larson received her undergraduate degrees from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where she studied under Dr. Kenneth Jennings, former director of the St. Olaf Choir, Robert Scholz and Alice T. Larsen. She received her Masters in Choral Conducting and Literature from Saint Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota, under the direction of Stephen Fuller. Ms. Larson has served as interim conductor of the St. John’s University Chamber Choir in Collegeville, the Campus Singers at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota where she led their concert tour to England and Wales in January 2000, and is a former director of the Concert Choir at Saint Cloud State University. Ms. Larson served three years as an adjunct conductor for the College of Saint Benedict Women’s Choir at the College of Saint Benedict. She is currently serving her sixteenth year as Choral Director and Director of Music at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Basilica Cathedral Choir and Children’s Choirs performed in the world premier of Choose Life, Uvacharta Bachayim, by Mona Lyn Reese in 1995 with a second performance in 2000.
Under Ms. Larson’s direction The Basilica Cathedral Choir has grown to over ninety members, published three compact disc recordings, embarked on a concert tour of Italy and Austria (1999) and the West Coast (2009), and been selected to perform at both local and national ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) conventions.
Ms. Larson is the founder of three children’s choirs at the Basilica, and directs a semi-professional Schola Cantorum. The Basilica Cathedral Choir, along with the Cathedral Choristers, joined forces with the Minnesota Orchestra for a repeat performance of To Be Certain of the Dawn, (Stephen Paulus and Michael Dennis Browne) under the direction of OsmoVänskä which culminated in a professional recording on the BIS label, released in February of 2009.
Ms. Larson has served as contest adjudicator, festival chorus director at numerous choral festivals, and is a member of ACDA, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, Choristers Guild, the American Federation of Pueri Cantores and the Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians. She has served as the Repertoire and Standards Chair for Worship in the Minnesota Central Division Chapter of ACDA, served a three year tenure as the Twin Cities Chapter President of Choristers Guild. She currently is proud to serve on the National Board of Directors for Choristers Guild. In October of 2009 she was inducted in the Arts and Activities Hall of Fame at Thomas Jefferson High School in Bloomington, MN and in April of 2010, received the 2010 Lake Conference Achievement Award for Fine Arts. She resides in Maple Grove, Minnesota with her husband, Don Krubsack and children, Jeff and Ellan.
