Singers Marin commissioned me to write a new piece for their SSA choir, Wings of Song in November of 2016, and needed the piece finished by the first of January. I didn’t have as much time as I wanted to write it, but made it! This choir welcomes all women who love to sing to join a community chorus with professional standards. Jan Pedersen Schiff started the group in 1987. Since then, they’ve performed all over the world.
To celebrate their 30th anniversary season, Wings of Song presented its 2017 spring concert, “Sing and Celebrate” on April 30, 2017. The program featured my new work Sweet Peas. This is the first commissioned piece of their Choral Commissioning Project. Sweet Peas had its world premiere in Iceland, April 17-26, 2017, when Wings of Song went on tour.
This music became especially lovely for me when I got a text and photo from my son-in-law, Charlie. We were driving to the gig when I got this message: Evan Ruby, born April 30, 2017, 4:57 AM EST. Our granddaughter!! Woot!! Another Sweet Pea for me!
Hear Sweet Peas.
