Getting the Garden Going

Last Sunday was a gorgeous day. It was warm and sunny and made Tom and me feel like gardening. So we did.

Tomatoes bask in the sun.

I finally got around to taking pictures of the garden after we put in new plants. The only place we get enough sun to grow tomatoes and fruit, is in our drive way. It’s covered in asphalt, so we garden in Earthboxes and buckets. We put in two new Earthboxes, one for strawberries and another for herbs, and 11 tomato plants.

Here are the herbs.

Spearmint, Basil, Parsley, Lemon Thyme, Chives, Silver Thyme

Tom is very good at growing tomatoes. He gives them lovely food, good soil, and the correct amount of water. Most of the time, his plants get 6 or 7 FEET tall. (It’s California.) This year, he’s getting super duper tall and strong tomato cages that will support these hummers. Thank goodness. The el-cheapo cages he used in the past were tippy.

Tiny tomato will grow into a 6-footer!

When we were done, we got to relax in our cool and pleasant back garden. I can’t wait until April, when the whole place blazes with roses and clematis!
